The Property Redress Scheme have confirmed that although the form applying to join their scheme DOES ask about insurance they do not actually make this a condition for joining the scheme
PLEASE NOTE THAT ONE OF THE LINKS PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED IN THIS POST HAVE BEEN AMENDED – HOUSING OMBUDSMAN SHOULD HAVE READ OMBUDSMAN SERVICES – PROPERTY.
LINKS BELOW HAVE BEEN UPDATED
IF YOU ARE A LANDLORD WHO DOES NOT MANAGE OR LET A PROPERTY ON BEHALF OF ANOTHER LANDLORD THIS POST IS JUST FOR INFORMATION, YOU NEED NOT TRY TO REGISTER WITH ANY OF THE SCHEMES
There has been very little publicity informing of this important change for anyone who is a Letting or Managing Agent of even one property.
From 1 October all agents MUST belong to a Redress Scheme.
Any agent who is not already a member of one of the national schemes please note that you MUST register with one of the three government authorised bodies:
Agents who already belong to one of the national schemes such as ARLA, NALS etc – no action need be taken as you are already a member of a scheme, probably the Housing Ombudsman.
Landlords and Tenants are urged to check that any agent used is a member of one of the above schemes.
A representative from the Property Redress Scheme will be talking to CRLA members next year.
